Succeed at Social Media in 3 Simple Steps

  • Sign up for everything: This is the first and easiest step for any business looking to boost their online presence.  Sign up for everything:  Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Google Places, LinkedIn, Foursquare, etc.  The more you get your name out there, there more likely customers are to find your listing and contact information.  Signing up is quick, easy and the benefits are endless.
  • Gather Followers: Once you've created every social profile you possibly can, start connecting.  Connect with you customers, connect with with your friends, connect with others in your industry.  This will allow to embrace the viral powers of the Internet.  For example, if one person 'likes' you on Facebook, all of their followers will see the message and have an opportunity to 'like' you as well.
  • Participate: The only way to succeed at Social Marketing is to be social.  It sounds obvious, but there are many companies that get hung up at this point.  If you're on Twitter, you need to tweet.  If you put your business on Foursquare, make sure you offer specials to your Mayors.  On LinkedIn, participate in industry discussions and answer others' questions.  There are alot of companies doingthe same thing, make yours stand out.

That's it; it's that simple.  As long as you are passionate about your product or service you will be successful in your Social Media campaigns.  To sum up: be friendly, be informative and, most importantly, be social.
